Job summary

Driscoll Health Plan seeks a Behavioral Health Technician to support patients with behavioral health challenges in a hospital setting in Corpus Christi, TX. You will work with licensed clinicians, assist with crisis intervention, and help families understand care plans, while maintaining a compassionate, trauma-informed approach.

The role emphasizes safety, direct patient care, group activities, and careful documentation in the EMR.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, child development, or related field preferred.
• Experience working with children, teens, or individuals with mental/behavioral health needs preferred.
• Current BLS/CPR certification required (or obtained within 30 days of hire).
• Certified Mental Health Technician (CMHT) or equivalent preferred.
• Workplace Violence Prevention training within 60-90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct observation, support, and engagement with patients in distress.
• Assist in monitoring patient behavior, mood, and safety risks.
• Implement safety protocols including de-escalation and suicide precautions.
• Support clinicians in crisis intervention during behavioral emergencies.
• Lead or co-facilitate therapeutic groups as assigned.
• Reinforce coping strategies and treatment goals.
• Assist with ADLs as needed.
• Document patient observations and safety checks in the medical record.
• Communicate changes in patient status to the interdisciplinary team.
• Participate in shift huddles and care coordination discussions.
• Provide family support and trauma-informed interactions.
• Maintain a therapeutic, clean, and safe environment.
