Job summary

UTHealth Houston’s Behavioral Sciences Campus is hiring Psychiatric Technicians to support inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care. Ideal candidates have at least one year of patient-care experience and are comfortable with behavioral health patients.

The role involves 12-hour shifts, crisis intervention, and close collaboration with nurses and the treatment team to maintain safety and therapeutic engagement.

Qualifications

• CPR certification or equivalent required.
• Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year of experience as Mental Health Technician/Psychiatric Technician or completion of Psychiatric Technician Internship.
• Certification in CNA/MA/EMT preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides inpatient and outpatient non-skilled nursing for psychiatric patients.
• Supervises patients on suicide or other critical precautions (1:1 or 2:1) within arm's reach.
• Performs patient observation rounds (Q15 and Q30 minutes) and documents findings.
• Assists with crisis intervention and de-escalation under licensed staff guidance.
• Supports milieu management and facilitates therapeutic activities and groups.
