Job summary

View Behavioral Health LLC in Long Beach, California seeks a compassionate Behavioral Health Technician to join our psychiatric care team. The role provides direct, frontline care and monitoring for patients under involuntary holds, under supervision of the Behavioral Health Manager.

You'll maintain a secure therapeutic environment, perform crisis de-escalation, and support patients with ADLs, meals, vital signs, and safety checks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Food Handler's Card is a major plus.
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in psychology, behavioral health, or a related human services field is highly preferred.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a behavioral health, healthcare, or hospital setting.
• Demonstrated ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress or crisis situations.
• Strong trauma-informed care foundation and de-escalation skills.
• Knowledge of California patient rights guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate understanding of Patients' Rights, LPS Statutes, and Seclusion/Restraint Protocols.
• Conduct and document safety checks (e.g., Q15 rounds) with constant observation for high-risk patients.
• Identify escalating behaviors and apply approved crisis prevention/de-escalation techniques.
• Provide direct care and support for ADLs, hygiene, and daily living activities.
• Assist in meal prep/serving and monitor dietary restrictions and nutrition guidelines.
• Record vital signs per clinical protocols.
• Observe and chart patient behavior, moods, nutrition, and vitals.
• Assist nursing staff with intake processing, searches for contraband, and discharge routing.
