Job summary

The Florida Department of Corrections seeks a Records Specialist to manage inmate medical records, ensuring compliance with HIPAA, FOIA, and related laws. You will handle requests, subpoenas, and court orders, coordinating with attorneys, law enforcement, and families; report to Central Office and serve the assigned Raiford area.

The role requires meticulous record keeping, attention to legal details, and a strong familiarity with public records procedures and documentation.

Qualifications

• Must have five (5) years of experience using Microsoft Office programs.
• Must have experience with HIPAA and or Freedom of Information Act (Public Records Request).

Responsibilities

• Acts as the main contact for sharing inmate medical information, always considering legal requirements.
• Locates, copies, and sends medical records for approved information releases.
• Handles phone inquiries from attorneys, law enforcement, and inmates’ families about medical records, following all regulations and laws.
• Logs and tracks all requests for information and checks forms for accuracy and proper signatures.
• Processes subpoenas and court orders by securing, copying, and sending records to legal authorities, and keeps detailed logs of these actions.
