Job summary

Health Advocates Network, Inc. is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to plan and provide comprehensive nursing care for inmates/residents. You will execute orders, dispense medications, assist providers, and coordinate medical services with contract personnel.

Location considerations include correctional facility setting and on-site duties. The role requires strong nursing competencies, attention to confidentiality, and the ability to align with NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO expectations.

Qualifications

• One year of professional nursing experience.

Responsibilities

• Monitor inmate/resident inpatient hospitalizations for early releases when appropriate.
• Provide guidance, supervise and monitor nursing care provided by licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff.
• Maintain a good working relationship with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers and outside provider agencies.
• Utilize established corporate, facility and correctional policies and procedures while exercising independent judgment.
• Regularly evaluate medical service provision to prevent inappropriate use or duplication.
• Maintain confidentiality of all medical records.
• Assist Health Service Administrator with review of medical files to ensure documentation of provided services.
• Monitor potential catastrophic illnesses.
• Audit pharmacy use for formulary adherence.
• Comply with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances.
• Observe and record inmate/resident behavior.
• Inspect medical unit for contraband and securely store or dispose of supplies.
• Provide health counseling and health education.
• Assist Health Service Administrator to prepare and maintain records, reports and logs.
• Read and interpret medical and technical procedures, regulations, and legal documents.
• Review and respond to lawsuits; attend court hearings when necessary.
• Facilitate accreditation of the medical program by providing required efficiency and services.
• Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports as required.
