Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks an administrative specialist for the Inmate Grievance Branch to support a wide range of clerical tasks, investigations, and policy reviews within the grievance process.

The role includes interviewing inmates and staff, preparing recommendations, and applying SC policies to resolve issues at the lowest level. Training includes four weeks of SCDC Basic Training on hire.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and four (4) years of responsible clerical, secretarial or administrative experience, preferably in a correctional or law enforcement setting.
• A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the related work experience.
• Experience in personal computer, leadership, law enforcement/paralegal/research or investigations is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs a wide variety of administrative duties for the Inmate Grievance Branch.
• Investigates grievances by conducting impartial inquiries through interviews with inmates and staff.
• Analyzes information and prepares recommendations to resolve problems at the lowest level.
• Reviews SCDC policies, statutes, disciplinary tapes, and grievance documentation.
• Interprets rules and procedures as they apply to day-to-day operations and grievance procedures; forwards appeals; issues Step 1 and Step 2 decisions.
