Job summary

The Florida Department of Corrections is seeking a Classification Officer for Baker Correctional Institution. The role focuses on accurately assessing inmates for housing and program placement to promote safety, rehabilitation, and successful reintegration.

Responsibilities include conducting assessments, coordinating referrals, evaluating information, maintaining OBIS records, and leading hearings with custody recommendations.

Qualifications

• Four of the six listed qualifications OR a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college.
• Experience in case management with assessments, planning, coordination, and evaluation.
• Experience reviewing, auditing, analyzing, and/or proofreading data.
• Experience applying laws, applicable rules, and procedures.
• Experience or training using OBIS and related software.
• Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience responding to grievances or inmate requests.

Responsibilities

• Conduct periodic and unscheduled assessments to track inmate progress, set positive adjustment goals, and motivate inmates to achieve them.
• Plan and coordinate targeted referrals for treatment, programs, work, and services to meet inmate and departmental needs.
• Evaluate diverse information sources to make informed decisions on inmate management.
• Maintain accurate inmate records in OBIS and other applications, compiling records as needed.
• Lead disciplinary hearings, make custody and reclassification recommendations, and ensure gain time awards where eligible.
