Job summary

Walton County Sheriff's Office is hiring a Classification Specialist to assess and determine custody levels, housing placements, and program eligibility for inmates. You will collaborate with records, medical, and security teams to ensure safe, fair, and compliant inmate management.

You will maintain JMS records, prepare reports, and participate in trainings while exercising discretion and protecting confidentiality in a correctional setting.

Qualifications

• Education – High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Driver License.
• Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required competencies to perform the job.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inmate classification and reclassification interviews to determine custody levels, housing assignments, and program eligibility.
• Review, analyze, and interpret criminal histories, case files, behavioral records, and other data to make informed classification decisions.
• Evaluate and document inmate progress, behavior, and adjustment to custody, and make recommendations for work assignments or programs.
• Maintain and update inmate information in the jail management system for accuracy of housing, custody, and program records.
• Prepare scheduled and unscheduled reports, classification summaries, and progress evaluations.
• Conduct file audits to ensure inmate records and documentation meet agency standards.
• Respond promptly to inmate requests, grievances, and correspondence with clear communication.
• Collaborate with Inmate Records, Medical, Programs, and security personnel for proper management and placement decisions.
