Job summary

St. Luke’s University Health Network is seeking an Assistive Personnel to support patient registration, scheduling, and outpatient care in our unit.

You will perform vital signs, glucometry, laboratory draws, phlebotomy, and chart preparation, entering orders in the electronic medical record. This role emphasizes compassionate patient care and collaboration with RNs in infusion centers.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • BLS or completion within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Assistive Personnel course or demonstrated competency.
  • 6 days of classroom orientation plus unit orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome and assist patients entering the unit.
  • Gather information to complete registration and scheduling.
  • Complete patient registration and scheduling as needed.
  • Assemble and maintain outpatient records.
  • Prepare chart documents for medical records pickup and scanning; scan into EMR.
  • Triage calls and route to clinic RNs as needed.
  • Enter orders through the EMR.
  • Perform clinical procedures within scope (vital signs, glucometry, lab draws, phlebotomy).
  • Prepare charts for the next day’s patients.
  • Participate in data collection, planning, and care implementation.
  • Provide patient care in infusion centers treating cancer and chronic illness patients.

Job description

  • Welcome and/or assist individuals arriving in the unit
  • Gather information to complete patient registration and scheduling
  • Complete patient registration and scheduling as needed
  • Assemble and maintain the order of outpatient records
  • Prepare chart documents for medical records pickup and scanning, and scan documents into the electronic medical record
  • Triage and prioritize calls, distributing them to clinic RNs when necessary
  • Accurately enter orders through electronic medical records
  • Perform clinical procedures within scope of practice, including vital signs, glucometry, laboratory draws, and therapeutic phlebotomy
  • Prepare charts for the next day's patients
  • Participate in data collection, planning, and implementation of patient care
  • Provide patient care in infusion centers treating cancer and chronic illness patients
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Successful completion of BLS or completion within 6 months of hire
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Completion of St. Luke’s University Health Network Assistive Personnel course or prior training demonstrated through competency testing
  • Ability to complete 6 business days of classroom orientation followed by unit orientation
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, bend, reach, and perceive attributes through touch as specified
  • Ability to lift, carry, and push objects up to 75 lbs occasionally and up to 10 lbs consistently
  • Ability to transport patients weighing up to 250 lbs via wheelchair, bed, and/or stretcher
  • Ability to hear normal conversation and high and low frequencies
  • Ability to see general, near, far, color, and peripheral vision
  • Full legal name, current home address, and employment history for the past seven years required in application
