Job summary

Jobtailor is recruiting for an Assistive Personnel role focused on direct and indirect patient care in a hospital setting. You will perform clinical procedures such as vital signs, EKGs, glucometry, and phlebotomy under RN/LPN guidance and support documentation and communication of patient condition changes.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, BLS certification within 60 days, basic computer skills, and completion of orientation programs.

Qualifications

  • Obtain BLS certification within 60 days of employment or transfer to the position.

  • Attend St. Luke’s University Health Network Assistive Personnel and Medical Terminology courses.
  • Ability to complete up to 6 business days of classroom orientation followed by unit orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect patient care across the lifespan under the direction of an RN or LPN.
  • Perform clinical procedures within scope of practice, including vital signs, intake and output measurements, EKGs, glucometry, phlebotomy, and specimen collection.
  • Document assigned responsibilities and communicate changes in patients’ conditions.
  • Follow treatment plans and perform functions supporting patient satisfaction and safe, quality care.
  • Perform assigned 1:1 watches.
  • Maintain unit supply inventory and a clean, orderly environment.
  • Assist with orienting and educating new staff.
  • Answer patient and visitor inquiries.
  • Assist clinical staff with operating-room preparation and turnover.
  • Obtain case carts, beds, equipment, and supplies; clean and set up rooms.
  • Assist the OR charge nurse with schedules, calls, and communications.
  • Check and stock supplies for case carts, operating rooms, and sub-sterile rooms.
  • Maintain knowledge of operating-room equipment, attend in‑services, and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Accept and deliver specimens to laboratory/pathology areas.
  • Assist with patient transport, positioning, and lifting.
  • Review the daily OR schedule and identify potential instrument, equipment, or supply conflicts.

Job description

  • Check and stock supplies for case carts, operating rooms, and sub-sterile rooms
  • Maintain knowledge of operating-room equipment, attend in‑services, and troubleshoot equipment

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Obtain BLS certification within 60 days of employment or transfer to the position

  • Ability to complete up to 6 business days of classroom orientation followed by unit orientation
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, bend, and reach as specified
  • Ability to frequently use fingers and hands for fingering and handling
  • Ability to push objects up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to transport patients weighing up to 400 pounds via wheelchair, stretcher, and/or bed
  • Ability to hear normal conversation and high and low frequencies
  • Ability to see general, near, far, color, and peripheral vision
  • Positions may prefer related experience
