Responsibilities

• Install, service, upgrade, and decommission structured cabling systems (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, fiber, low-voltage).
• Perform fiber fusion splicing and copper termination, testing, and certification.
• Install racks, cabinets, cable trays, pathways, patch panels, and rack‑and‑stack equipment.
• Conduct testing using Fluke DSX8000, OTDR, and VFL; maintain test docs.
• Troubleshoot cabling and network infrastructure issues and support device installations.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical docs.
• Lead and mentor junior technicians while ensuring safety, quality, productivity.
• Act as customer-facing technical resource; provide project updates and resolve issues.
• Maintain documentation for testing results, materials, labor hours, and progress.

A client of Innova Solutions is immediately hiring for an Infrastructure Technician

Position type: Full-time Contract
Duration: 8 months
Location: Abilene, TX

As an Infrastructure Technician, you will:

• Install, service, upgrade, and decommission structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, fiber optic, and low-voltage infrastructure.
• Perform fiber fusion splicing, including high-strand ribbon fiber splicing, as well as fiber and copper termination, testing, and certification.
• Install racks, cabinets, cable trays, pathways, patch panels, and rack-and-stack network equipment.
• Conduct testing using Fluke DSX8000, OTDR, and VFL tools and maintain accurate test documentation.
• Troubleshoot cabling and network infrastructure issues and support network device installations.
• Read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and technical documentation.
• Lead and mentor junior technicians while ensuring safety, quality, and productivity standards are met.
• Act as a customer-facing technical resource, providing project updates and resolving technical challenges.
• Maintain documentation for testing results, materials, labor hours, and project progress.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Associate degree or technical certification or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting low voltage cabling systems
• Experience leading small teams, mentoring junior technicians, and ensuring safe, quality focused execution
• Proven ability to install, terminate, test, and certify copper and fiber systems
• Understanding of NEC, ANSI, TIA, EIA, and BICSI standards
• Proficient experience installing, terminating, and testing fiber (single mode/multi-mode connections)
• Proficiency with various testers - Fluke, OTDR, and VFL
• Splicingfiber experience

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with major manufacturers (Panduit, CommScope, Corning, Leviton, etc.)
• BICSI Technician Certification

This position is only open to applicants who can be engaged on a W-2 basis. 1099 contractors and Corp-to-Corp arrangements will not be considered for this position.

PAY RANGE AND BENEFITS:

Pay Range*: $30 - $40 per hour

*Pay range offered to a successful candidate will be based on several factors, including the candidate's education, work experience, work location, specific job duties, certifications, etc.
