Job summary

Muon Space in Denver is seeking a Geospatial Data Scientist to build derived data products from infrared missions. You will turn Level-1 imagery into higher-level products, write production-ready code, and work with senior scientists and product owners across missions.

This hands-on role emphasizes rigorous Earth observation science, cross-functional collaboration, and cloud-enabled geospatial workflows. The position is hybrid, with three days on-site in Denver.

Qualifications

• Geospatial data product development experience with new imaging instruments.
• Experience applying first principles to solve complex problems.
• Experience working with real-world data from new imaging instruments.
• Strong Python-based development and analysis skills.
• Familiarity with geospatial formats and libraries (COGs, Xarray, GDAL).
• Excellent written and verbal communication in distributed teams.

Responsibilities

• Build derived data products from infrared imaging missions.
• Implement scalable algorithms for processing multispectral imagery into derived geospatial products.
• Contribute to product design and roadmap under direction of senior scientists.
• Create technical and customer-facing design documents for derived products.
• Engage with customer technical stakeholders including TIMs and program meetings.
• Write production-ready code that integrates into customer-facing data pipelines.
• Contribute to scientific quality, validation, and data integrity across missions.
• Collaborate with software engineers, calibration scientists, and instrument engineers.
