The Department of Management (DOM), Division of Information Technology (DoIT) is seeking an Information Technology Specialist 3 – Workstation Systems Administrator!


This role will be responsible for managing the procurement, installation, and maintenance of workstations, laptops, and virtual desktops, ensuring system security, performance, and compliance. The ideal candidate will play a key role in maintaining the availability and stability of critical systems for broadcast and content creation.


Key Responsibilities
  1. Procure, configure, install, and maintain enterprise workstation systems (including desktops, laptops, and virtual workstations) to ensure optimal performance.
  2. Assess and analyze systems for compliance with security and configuration requirements, providing recommendations for system upgrades or service enhancements.
  3. Ensure the health of enterprise systems by managing lifecycle replacements and system upgrades.
  4. Support and maintain accounts and Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to ensure the availability, security, and integrity of the systems.
  5. Implement access controls and monitoring tools to safeguard enterprise systems and data.
  6. Apply troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to detect, isolate, and resolve technical issues in enterprise systems.
  7. Provide direction and instruction to technical staff and endpoint support teams regarding system use and troubleshooting processes.
  8. Offer support as needed to resolve urgent issues or outages.
  9. Assist with the installation, support, maintenance, and upgrades for enterprise-wide systems and technology solutions, including servers, applications, and equipment.
  10. Provision, procure, image, and decommission mobile devices (e.g., cell phones, tablets) while maintaining accurate technical documentation.
  11. Support the Iowa PBS editing suite infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and stability across software and hardware versioning.
  12. Create and maintain user accounts for the enterprise and manage user account lifecycle processes.

reside in the state of Iowa at the time of starting the role.

Background Check Requirements
  1. After a conditional offer of employment has been made, and as the final step in the hiring process, candidates for this position will be subject to a background investigation, which may include but may not be limited to a verification of a candidate’s education, previous employment/work history, contact of personal references, motor vehicle records, and a criminal history check (including through Federal, State, or Local criminal justice agencies).
  2. Information gathered as part of such background investigation will be treated as confidential to the extent permitted by Iowa Code section 22.7, 8B.4A, and other applicable laws, rules, and regulations; provided that, to the extent permitted by applicable law, such information shall be available to candidates upon request.
  3. As well as pass background investigation conducted by the Iowa Department of Public Safety.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  1. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in any field, and experience equal to one year of full-time work in: operating a multi-job computer; installing, operating, and coordinating computer-based networks; installing/maintaining database management systems; developing business application processes; developing/operating system programs; installing/maintaining personal computers, Local Area Networks, and/or servers; managing operating systems; developing/delivering information management training; providing Information Technology (IT) customer service; or designing/administering websites.
  2. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in computer science, computer applications, software engineering, computer engineering, management information systems, business analytics, or cyber security.
  3. All of the following (a and b):
    • One year of full-time work experience in: operating a multi-job computer; installing, operating, and coordinating computer-based networks; installing/maintaining database management systems; developing business application processes; developing/operating system programs; installing/maintaining personal computers, Local Area Networks, and/or servers; managing operating systems; developing/delivering information management training; providing Information Technology (IT) customer service; or designing/administering websites; and
    • A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  4. All of the following (a and b):
    • One year of full-time work experience in: operating a multi-job computer; installing, operating, and coordinating computer-based networks; installing/maintaining database management systems; developing business application processes; developing/operating system programs; installing/maintaining personal computers, Local Area Networks, and/or servers; managing operating systems; developing/delivering information management training; providing Information Technology (IT) customer service; designing/administering websites; or executing technology projects (e.g., systems analysis, requirements, design, development, and testing); and
    • Either of the following:
      • Certification by an authorized educational institution/major computer or software producer in an area directly related to one of the computer specialty fields described in part a; or
      • 18 semester hours of accredited post-high-school coursework in one of the specialty fields described in part a.
  5. Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as an Information Technology Specialist 2.
