Responsibilities

  • Assist with hardware deployments including racking, stacking, and cabling servers and network equipment.
  • Organize and manage network cabling, label ports, and maintain patch panels for reliability and airflow.
  • Maintain inventory records for technology assets and secure disposal of retired equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and replace hardware components such as drives, RAM, and power supplies.
  • Perform software verification, documentation, and validation for applications.
  • Assist with software updates, backups, and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Provide technical support for staff and troubleshoot hardware, software, and systems issues.
  • Configure and maintain desktops, laptops, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Participate in testing and validation of new technologies and tools.
  • Assist planning and coordination of minor technology upgrades and infrastructure improvements.

Job description

Faraday, a subsidiary of Physical Sciences Inc. (PSI), is an employee-owned research and development company located in Dayton, Ohio is seeking a motivated Information Technology Intern to join our team and support our IT department. This internship provides hands-on experience working alongside our IT team on a variety of infrastructure, hardware, software, and user support initiatives in a collaborative engineering environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a student looking to gain real-world experience supporting enterprise technology systems while developing practical skills in IT operations, cybersecurity, and systems administration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with hardware deployments, including racking, stacking, and cabling servers, network switches, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).
  • Organize and manage network cabling by tracing cables, labeling ports, and maintaining patch panels to promote reliability and proper airflow.
  • Maintain inventory records for technology assets, including asset tags, hardware serial numbers, software licenses, and secure disposal of retired equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and replace hardware components such as hard drives, memory (RAM), and power supplies.
  • Perform software verification, documentation, and validation for new and existing applications.
  • Assist with software updates, system backups, and routine maintenance activities.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshoot hardware, software, and system issues for staff.
  • Configure, deploy, and maintain desktop computers, laptops, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Participate in testing and validating new technologies, systems, and tools.
  • Assist with planning and coordinating minor technology upgrades and infrastructure improvements.
Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Rising sophomore or junior with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • General understanding of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to follow written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions while communicating effectively with technical and non-technical users.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

This position is primarily based in an office environment and involves regular movement throughout the facility to support technology systems. The role may require sitting or standing for extended periods, communicating effectively in person and electronically, and occasionally lifting equipment or materials weighing up to approximately 20 pounds. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support system upgrades or special projects.
