Job summary

Union County Community Action, Inc. in Monroe, NC is seeking an Infant & Toddler Teacher to care for 1- and 2-year-olds in a Head Start setting. This role focuses on nurturing, developmentally appropriate activities, and strong family engagement.

Starting rate is up to $18 per hour with a Monday–Friday schedule from 7:30am to 3:30pm (40 hours/week). You’ll contribute to a supportive classroom that helps children reach early milestones and activities align with NC Early Years programs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Infant/Toddler CDA credential preferred or willingness to obtain.
• Experience with infants, toddlers, or preschoolers preferred.
• CPR and First Aid certification required or ability to obtain.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Passion for early childhood education and family engagement.
• Pre-employment physical, drug screening and TB test required.
• Random drug screening may be conducted.

Responsibilities

• Provide nurturing care and supervision for infants and toddlers.
• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate classroom activities and routines.
• Develop secure, responsive relationships with children.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and engaging classroom environment.
• Observe and assess children’s developmental progress.
• Communicate regularly with families regarding children’s growth and daily activities.
• Conduct parent conferences and home visits as required.
• Collaborate with classroom staff and support specialists.
• Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and licensing requirements.

Physical Requirements Must be able to actively supervise infants and toddlers, frequently bend, kneel, sit on the floor, lift and carry children, and move throughout classroom and outdoor environments. Position requires occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
