Job summary

AVANCE San Antonio seeks an experienced infant/toddler caregiver for a Head Start program, focused on nurturing development and literacy skills. You will implement developmentally appropriate activities, monitor child progress, and coordinate with families through regular communication and home visits.

The role emphasizes safety, health practices, and strong collaboration with staff to support each child’s growth in a diverse, inclusive setting.

Qualifications

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED from an accredited program with an Education Agreement to complete the CDA within 18 months.
  • Preferred: Infant and Toddler CDA (Child Development Associate Credential).
  • Preferred: Six (6) months’ experience working in an infant and toddler setting.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to Head Start Program Standards, licensing requirements, and NAEYC regulations.
  • Conduct daily screenings and assessments using AVANCE tools and perform home visits as needed.
  • Maintain a 1 Teacher to 4 Child ratio in classrooms with up to 8 infants/toddlers.
  • Plan developmentally appropriate activities to promote literacy, language, cognitive, social/emotional and physical development.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about children's progress and involvement.
