This position focuses on structural welding and fabrication for the repair and refurbishment of large-scale mining equipment, primarily massive mining excavators. You will perform critical structural repairs in a large, swamp-cooled fabrication bay, addressing wear and damage caused by heavy equipment operation. The role requires strong welding, fabrication, and blueprint interpretation skills, along with a commitment to safety and high-quality workmanship in an industrial environment.
Perform structural welding repairs on large mining excavators and related heavy equipment, ensuring integrity and reliability of critical components.
Repair cracks, fractures, and worn components resulting from normal equipment operation and heavy-duty use.
Weld a variety of materials, including AR400 and other abrasion-resistant steels, as well as mild and softer steels, using appropriate techniques and procedures.
Gouge out defective or failed welds using carbon arc gouging or similar methods as part of repair and rebuild activities.
Use fabrication skills daily to cut, bend, fit, modify, and reinforce structural components, maintaining accurate dimensions and alignment.
Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and weld symbols to plan and execute repairs and fabrication work correctly.
Operate oxy-acetylene torches to cut steel and preheat AR steel prior to welding, following safe operating practices.
Utilize power tools and grinding equipment to prepare surfaces, finish welds, and support fabrication and repair tasks.
Work safely in confined spaces and around oversized equipment, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.
Maintain quality and accuracy while working on critical structural components, conducting visual checks and ensuring sound welds.
Communicate effectively with peers, supervisors, and support teams to coordinate repairs, share status updates, and uphold safety and quality standards.
Contribute to a team-focused environment by collaborating on complex repairs and supporting continuous improvement in processes and workmanship.
Proven experience as a structural welder in heavy equipment, mining, or industrial environments.
Proficiency welding abrasion-resistant steels such as AR400 and similar materials, as well as mild steel.
Experience with carbon arc gouging or comparable weld removal techniques used in repair and rebuild work.
Strong fabrication skills, including layout, fit-up, cutting, bending, grinding, and structural reinforcement.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and weld symbols accurately.
Demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively in a large bay environment around oversized mining machinery.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety, quality, and high standards of workmanship.
Comfort working in confined spaces and industrial settings with heavy equipment and power tools.
Hands-on experience in physically demanding industrial or mining repair work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mesa, AZ.
The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $30.50/hr.
