Job summary

Western Midstream seeks a process engineer to advance water treatment solutions with hands-on membrane system design, testing, and field pilots. You will plan and execute pilots at customer sites, analyze data, and develop robust designs while supporting sales and project execution.

Hybrid work from The Woodlands, TX is offered with travel up to 25%. The ideal candidate has 2–5 years of membrane experience, strong water chemistry knowledge, and the ability to size and optimize systems.

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of membrane system design (MF/UF/MBR/NF/RO) experience and piloting or startup exposure.
  • Hands-on pilot operation or system startup experience.
  • Strong knowledge of membrane processes and water chemistry.
  • Ability to design, size, and optimize membrane systems for water/wastewater treatment.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail and strong communication.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute field pilots at customer sites to demonstrate membrane solutions.
  • Conduct in-house validation trials for new products or applications.
  • Analyze pilot data and prepare client reports with clear conclusions.
  • Develop cost-effective membrane system designs meeting customer needs.
  • Size equipment, pumps, piping, and valves for water treatment systems.
  • Develop process docs including P&IDs, mass balances, and control narratives.
  • Support sales with technical proposals and performance guarantees.
  • Assist with project management for installation and field design.
  • Commission membrane systems, troubleshoot issues, and provide after-sales support.

Our core assets provide services for customers in the Delaware Basin in West Texas and New Mexico, and the DJ Basin in northeastern Colorado, and the Powder River Basin in Northeast Wyoming. Additional assets and investments are located in South Texas, Utah, and Southwest Wyoming.

We’re engaged in the business of gathering, compressing, treating, processing, and transporting natural gas; gathering, stabilizing and transporting condensate, natural gas liquids (NGLs) and crude oil; and gathering, transporting, recycling, treating and disposing of produced water for our customers. In our capacity as a natural gas processor, we also buy and sell natural gas, NGLs, and condensate on our behalf and our customers under certain gas processing contracts.

Job Summary

Qualifications
  • 2-5 years of experience in membrane system design (MF/UF/MBR/NF/RO), operations, and piloting
  • Recent hands-on experience with pilot operation and/or system startups
  • Strong knowledge of membrane processes and water chemistry
  • Ability to design, size, and optimizemembrane system processes
  • Analytical skills to understand technical requirements and develop solutionsAttention to detail and strong problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent organization and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Capable of working independently with management guidance
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Willingness to travel for field work as needed

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in the field at our pilot sites which may include:
    • Moving safely around operating water treatment equipment toaccomplishtasks
    • Outdoor elements such as precipitation, wind, high, and low temperatures
Education
  • Bachelor's degreerequiredin relevant engineering subject matter (chemical, civil, environmental). Master's degree preferred. Grade and salarycommensuratewith relevant education and experience.
Travel Requirements
  • Travel ofup to 25% isrequiredfor this role.
Work Schedule
  • This is a hybrid position that will work 9 hours Monday - Thursday and 4 hours on Friday.
