Job summary

Martin Painting & Coating Co. in Columbus, OH is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Painter to join our commercial and industrial painting team. You will prepare steel surfaces, apply coatings, and ensure quality throughout the project.

The role requires attention to detail, safe work practices, and the ability to work with a field crew. Experience with heights, tools, and respirator compliance are valued as we build durable, professional finishes.

Qualifications

• Experience in commercial or industrial painting preferred.
• Experience painting structural steel or similar surfaces is a plus.
• Knowledge of surface preparation and coating application.
• Comfortable working at heights.
• Ability to use painting tools and equipment safely.
• Must be clean-shaven for respirator compliance.
• Reliable transportation.
• Smartphone required for timesheets and communication.
• Ability to work at least two weekends per month.

Responsibilities

• Prepare steel surfaces for painting and coating applications.
• Remove dirt, loose coatings, rust, and other surface contaminants.
• Perform scraping, sanding, cleaning, and other preparation activities.
• Apply paint and coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
• Maintain consistent coverage and professional finish quality.
• Perform touch-up work when necessary.
• Protect surrounding areas and equipment during painting activities.
• Work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, or other elevated work areas as required.
• Maintain painting tools and equipment.
• Keep the jobsite clean and organized.
• Follow project instructions and company safety procedures.
• Work with crew members to complete assigned project activities safely and efficiently.
