Job summary

Martin Painting & Coating Co. is seeking a dependable Surface Preparation Technician to join our commercial and industrial painting team in Columbus, Ohio. You will help prepare surfaces by removing dirt, old coatings, rust, and other contaminants to ensure quality results.

You will work with hand and power tools, on-site with a crew, and must meet safety requirements while maintaining productivity and quality standards. Training and career growth opportunities are available.

Qualifications

• Previous surface preparation, painting, construction, or related experience preferred.
• Familiarity with sanding, scraping, cleaning, and masking techniques is a plus.
• Comfortable using hand tools and power tools.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work.
• Must be clean-shaven for respirator compliance.
• Reliable transportation.
• Smartphone required for timesheets and communication.
• Ability to work at least two weekends per month.
• Dependable and committed to following safety procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces for commercial and industrial painting and coating work.
• Perform scraping, sanding, cleaning, and masking.
• Remove dirt, debris, loose coatings, and other surface contaminants.
• Use hand tools and power tools for surface preparation.
• Assist with preparing work areas before painting activities begin.
• Protect surrounding surfaces and equipment as needed.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas.
• Properly care for and maintain assigned tools and equipment.
• Follow instructions from supervisors and experienced crew members.
• Follow company safety procedures and jobsite requirements.
• Work collaboratively with other members of the painting crew.
• Complete assigned preparation work while maintaining quality and productivity standards.
