Job summary

Orbital Engineering, Inc. seeks a Structural Field Inspector to support Asset Management programs at client facilities in Granite City, IL and the St. Louis Metro area.

This field-focused role requires regular travel to industrial facilities and meticulous documentation of structural conditions. The inspector will work with the Field Project Manager and Asset Management Program Manager to ensure inspections comply with standards, procedures, and client requirements, while maintaining safety and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related technical discipline, or equivalent hands-on inspection experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of structural/asset integrity inspections in industrial environments.
• TWIC card holder preferred.
• Experience supporting Asset Management, Asset Integrity, MI, or RBI programs preferred.
• Familiarity with digital inspection tools, mobile data collection, or asset tracking systems preferred.
• Experience in consulting engineering or inspection services environment preferred.
• Experience at asset-intensive facilities (power, oil & gas, refining, chemical, manufacturing, steel, mining).
• Strong understanding of structural components and deterioration mechanisms.
• Ability to document field observations with notes and photos.
• Willingness to travel regularly to client sites and work in industrial environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform field inspections of existing industrial structures (steel, concrete, foundations, platforms).
• Document observable deficiencies, damage, deterioration, and safety concerns.
• Communicate critical findings promptly to field/project managers.
• Assist with inspection reports and deliverables with clear field data.
• Maintain accurate records of inspected assets and observations.
