Job summary

Orbital Engineering is seeking a Structural Field Inspector for Granite City, IL and surrounding St. Louis Metro Area projects.

You will perform field inspections of industrial structures, document conditions, and collect defensible data to support risk-based decisions. Regular travel to client facilities is required, and collaboration with the Field Project Manager ensures inspections meet safety and client standards.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education and hands on inspection experience
• Minimum of 3 years of experience performing structural or asset integrity inspections in industrial environments
• Experience supporting Asset Management, Asset Integrity, Mechanical Integrity or RBI programs preferred
• Familiarity with digital inspection tools or asset tracking systems preferred
• Experience in consulting engineering or inspection services environment preferred
• Experience at asset-intensive facilities (power, oil & gas, refining, chemical, manufacturing, steel, mining) preferred
• Travel regularly to client sites and work in industrial environments

Responsibilities

• Perform field inspections of existing industrial structures and document observable deficiencies
• Photograph and document observed conditions and safety concerns
• Communicate critical findings to supervisors during field activities
• Collect high-quality field notes, photographs, measurements, and supporting documentation
• Assist with preparation of inspection reports and deliverables
• Maintain accurate records for Asset Management databases
• Coordinate field activities with project managers and client contacts
• Mentor junior inspectors and field staff as needed
