Job summary

OTC Industrial Technologies seeks an Applications Controls Engineer to join its Engineered Systems Group. You will support startup, testing, validation, and optimization of automated finishing and dispensing systems in paint operations, commissioning control systems, and ensuring safe, reliable performance.

The role requires hands-on field experience with PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and industrial networks, plus strong troubleshooting and documentation skills.

Qualifications

5-7 years of controls engineering in manufacturing, or 10+ years in automation.
Direct experience with industrial paint systems and automated finishing.
Proficient with Rockwell/AB PLCs; Siemens and Mitsubishi a plus.
Experience with HMIs, SCADA, industrial networks, and drive systems.
Able to read electrical schematics, P&IDs, I/O lists, and narratives.
Strong knowledge of motors, sensors, valves and safety devices.
Willing to travel 40-50% with extended hours as needed.

Responsibilities

Plan, execute, and document commissioning activities for controls systems in paint shops.
Design, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC/HMI/VFD/servo and networked controls during install.
Verify wiring, I/O, safety circuits, instrumentation, and field devices per design.
Conduct loop checks, functional testing, interlocks, alarms, and acceptance tests.
Support SCADA, data collection, and line-tracking interfaces for paint systems.
Create, update, and maintain commissioning reports, punch lists, and as-built docs.
Ensure safety compliance and train operations after handoff.
