Job summary

Hunton Services seeks an Industrial Mechanical Operations Technician to support mission-critical cooling and mechanical systems at the IREN data center campus in Childress, TX. You will conduct equipment rounds, monitor operating conditions, and maintain logs to ensure uninterrupted operations.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and coordinating with engineering controls and vendors.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training preferred.
  • Experience in plant operations, industrial maintenance, HVAC, or similar environment is a plus.
  • Ability to read equipment data, diagrams, and procedures and to document findings.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct equipment rounds and monitor operating conditions for chillers, pumps, VFDs, and fans.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, lubrication, and basic repairs within qualifications.
  • Document logs and communicate abnormalities or trends to the team.
  • Assist with startup/shutdown, commissioning, and response to issues in a 24/7 data center setting.
  • Work with engineers, controls, and vendors to ensure reliable operation.

DescriptionHunton Services, a division of the Hunton Group, is seeking an Industrial Mechanical Operations Technician to support mission-critical cooling and mechanical systems at the IREN data center campus in Childress, Texas. Responsibilities include conducting equipment rounds, monitoring operating conditions, maintaining logs, performing preventive maintenance, and assisting with troubleshooting. Previous data center experience is not required. Candidates with industrial maintenance, plant operations, oil and gas, utilities, manufacturing, or similar experience are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, safe work habits, and a willingness to learn complex systems.Come work for an industry leader that has been recognized both locally and nationally as one of the Top Places to Work!ResponsibilitiesConduct routine equipment rounds and monitor operating conditions for chillers, pumps, dry coolers, rooftop units, air-handling units, motors, fans, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).Complete detailed daily logs, review readings against expected operating parameters, and communicate abnormalities, trends, or equipment concerns.Perform preventive and routine maintenance, including inspections, filter changes, lubrication, adjustments, and basic mechanical or electrical repairs within assigned qualifications.Recognize unusual readings, sounds, vibration, temperatures, pressures, flow conditions, or equipment behavior and begin structured troubleshooting.Support the diagnosis and repair of pumps, motors, fans, drives, valves, piping components, and related mechanical or electrical equipment.Use P&IDs, equipment diagrams, sequences of operation, standard operating procedures, and equipment manuals to understand system operation and trace process flow.Assist with equipment startup, shutdown, commissioning transition activities, and response to system or equipment issues.Coordinate with site leadership, engineering, controls, vendors, and other technicians to maintain reliable operation.Follow all safety, environmental, lockout/tagout, and site-specific requirements while maintaining accurate maintenance and operating records.Participate in hands-on training and help mentor client technicians after demonstrating competency.Support a 24/7 operation through an assigned 12-hour shift, which may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.QualificationsQualificationsHigh school diploma or GED required; technical school, military technical training, apprenticeship, or related certification is preferred.Relevant experience in plant operations, industrial maintenance, mechanical maintenance, electrical/instrumentation maintenance, HVAC, facilities operations, utilities, oil and gas, manufacturing, or a similar environment.Hands-on experience with equipment such as pumps, motors, compressors, fans, blowers, valves, VFDs, motor-operated valves, refrigeration systems, or process piping is highly transferable.Ability to read and interpret equipment data, maintenance instructions, diagrams, and P&IDs; experience with line tracing or process flow is a plus.Mechanical aptitude and a methodical approach to identifying, documenting, and troubleshooting equipment problems.Basic electrical knowledge and comfort using common hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic instruments within training and authorization.Ability to maintain accurate logs, communicate clearly across teams, and use basic computer programs such as email, Word, or Excel.Commitment to safe work practices, reliability, teamwork, continuous learning, and working in a mission-critical environment.Ability and willingness to work the assigned 12-hour shift and meet the attendance needs of a 24/7 operation.Preferred ExperienceOperations or maintenance experience in a continuous process or mission-critical facility.Experience with central utility plants, chilled-water or condenser-water systems, industrial refrigeration, controls, or building automation systems.Experience performing equipment rounds, trending operating data, responding to alarms, or supporting startup and shutdown procedures.EPA certification, HVAC license or registration, electrical or instrumentation training, OSHA training, or other relevant trade credentials.Work Environment and Physical RequirementsWork is performed on-site in an active data center and central utility plant environment with exposure to indoor and outdoor conditions, noise, moving equipment, and temperature changes.Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods; climb stairs and ladders; bend, kneel, crouch, and work around equipment; and safely lift or move tools and materials consistent with job requirements.Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment and comply with all clients and Hunton safety requirements.Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the role.
