Job summary

The Hunton Group’s Hunton Services division seeks a dependable Plant BAS Operator to support 24/7 critical facility operations in Childress, Texas. You will monitor and operate Central Utility Plant, HVAC, and related mechanical systems via BAS/BMS and Ignition BMS/SCADA, ensuring safety, reliability, and uptime.

You will identify abnormal conditions, coordinate verification, document activity, and escalate issues according to site procedures, working with field technicians and site leadership

Qualifications

  • BAS/BMS operation and control of HVAC systems.
  • Experience with monitoring, operating, or troubleshooting BAS/BMS-controlled equipment.

Responsibilities

DescriptionHunton Services, a division of the Hunton Group, is seeking a dependable Plant Building Automation System (BAS) Operator to support 24/7 critical-facility operations in Childress, Texas. This position monitors and operates Central Utility Plant (CUP), HVAC, and related mechanical systems through Building Automation and Management Systems (BAS/BMS) and the Ignition BMS/SCADA platform. The BAS Operator serves as the connection between control-room and field operations. This individual will identify abnormal conditions, coordinate field verification, take authorized operational action, document plant activity, and escalate issues that could affect safety, equipment Central Utility Plant, HVAC, and mechanical equipment through BAS/BMS, Ignition BMS/SCADA, and related control interfaces.Track equipment status, temperatures, pressures, flow rates, loads, setpoints, alarms, and system trends.Operate authorized equipment and control functions, including chillers, pumps, cooling equipment, air-handling units, rooftop units, valves, VFDs, equipment starts and stops, resets, and lead/lag changes.Respond to alarms and abnormal conditions by reviewing system data, coordinating field verification, completing approved operational actions, and escalating issues according to site procedures.Use alarms, trends, historical data, and field observations to identify developing equipment or control issues before they affect plant capacity or reliability.Maintain awareness of plant capacity, equipment availability, redundancy, active maintenance, temporary operating conditions, and equipment that is out of service.Immediately communicate conditions that could affect uptime, safety, plant reliability, or customer operations.Coordinate troubleshooting with field operators, BAS programmers, controls technicians, HVAC technicians, commissioning teams, contractors, and site leadership.Assist with resolving issues involving equipment, sensors, actuators, controllers, system communications, and sequences of operation.Conduct or coordinate plant rounds to verify BAS/BMS readings against actual field conditions and confirm that operating records are complete and accurate.Maintain shift logs, alarm records, equipment-status reports, work orders, event documentation, and shift-turnover information.Document equipment failures, operational changes, corrective actions, temporary conditions, and outstanding concerns.Support preventive and corrective maintenance by coordinating equipment availability, shutdowns, startups, equipment swaps, and post-maintenance operational verification.Participate in shift turnover and communicate active alarms, equipment under repair, work in progress, and operational priorities to incoming personnel.Follow established SOPs, MOPs, EOPs, change-management processes, Lockout/Tagout requirements, customer standards, and Hunton Services safety policies.Assist with developing, reviewing, validating, and improving operating procedures, alarm-response guidance, documentation, and control-room practices.Maintain a clean and professional control-room environment.Participate in ongoing BAS/BMS, HVAC, safety, and critical-facilities training.QualificationsQualifications and RequirementsHigh school diploma or GED required.2 – 5 years of experience in BAS/BMS, central utility plant operations, data center operations, critical facilities, industrial plant operations, or a related environment.Hands-on experience monitoring, operating, or troubleshooting BAS/BMS-controlled HVAC or mechanical systems.Working knowledge of HVAC systems, central utility plants, chilled-water systems, BAS/BMS controls, and mechanical equipment operation.Familiarity with chillers, pumps, cooling equipment, air-handling units, rooftop units, VFDs, valves, sensors, actuators, and related critical-cooling infrastructure.Ability to interpret BAS/BMS graphics, alarms, trends, equipment status, control drawings, P&IDs, sequences of operation, and technical documentation.Ability to recognize abnormal operating conditions, prioritize multiple alarms and operational demands, and determine the appropriate response and escalation.Experience in responding to equipment alarms and abnormal conditions in a 24/7 or similarly critical operating environment.Strong troubleshooting, analytical, documentation, customer-service, and communication skills.Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office, CMMS applications, and BAS/BMS software.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a mission-critical environment.Ability to work assigned shifts, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency response as required.Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving requirements.Strong commitment to safety, reliability, accountability, and operational excellence.Preferred QualificationsAssociate degree or technical certification in HVAC, Building Automation, Industrial Controls, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, Critical Facilities Operations, or a related field.Experience with Ignition BMS/SCADA, including system navigation, alarm monitoring and acknowledgment, equipment-status monitoring, trending, and historical-data review.Experience in data centers, Central Utility Plants, mission-critical cooling plants, hospitals, industrial facilities, or other high-availability environments.Experience operating chilled-water plants and maintaining N+1 or similar redundant infrastructure.Experience working under formal SOP, MOP, EOP, change-management, work-order, incident-documentation, and shift-turnover processes.Experience with Tridium Niagara N4, Trane, Distech, BACnet, or similar building-control platforms and protocols.HVAC, controls, electrical, mechanical, or critical-facilities certification.
