Job summary

Hunton Services, a division of The Hunton Group, seeks a Chiller Specialist – Level 4 in Childress, TX to act as the technical SME for critical chiller systems in data-center environments.

You will perform advanced diagnostics, repairs, startup, commissioning support, system optimization, and root-cause analysis while guiding HVAC Technicians and coordinating with site leadership.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive HVAC service experience with extensive chiller responsibility.
• Experience servicing centrifugal, rotary/screw, and reciprocating chillers; multi-chiller plants preferred.
• Data center, hospital, central utility plant, or mission-critical facility experience preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of refrigeration cycles, compressors, heat exchangers, oil systems, pumps, cooling towers, hydronic systems, electrical components, VFDs.
• Working knowledge of BAS and chiller controls; interpret alarms, trends and sequences.

Job DetailsJob Location: Childress - Childress, TX 79201Position Type: Full TimeHunton Services, a division of the Hunton Group, is seeking an experienced Chiller Specialist – Level 4 to support the team in Childress, Texas. This position serves as the primary technical subject-matter expert and escalation resource for chiller systems that are critical to continuous data center operations. The selected candidate will perform advanced diagnostics, repairs, startup, commissioning support, system optimization, and root-cause analysis while providing technical direction to the onsite HVAC team. This role requires extensive heavy-commercial chiller experience, sound judgment in mission-critical environments, and disciplined documentation and communication.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the onsite technical subject-matter expert and escalation point for complex chiller and central-plant equipment issues.
• Perform advanced diagnostics, service, repair, startup, and operational support for centrifugal, rotary/screw, and reciprocating chillers.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, oil-management, heat-transfer, flow, controls-interface, and system-performance conditions.
• Analyze equipment readings, alarms, trends, logs, drawings, sequences, service histories, and manufacturer data to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
• Monitor chiller and cooling-system performance and recommend corrective, preventive, and optimization measures that support reliability, efficiency, and uptime.
• Lead or support root-cause analyses for equipment failures, recurring alarms, performance degradation, and operational events; document findings and recommended actions.
• Develop, review, and improve preventive and predictive maintenance tasks, inspection standards, operating procedures, and equipment-specific service plans.
• Lead or support major repairs, overhauls, retrofits, equipment startup, commissioning, functional testing, and vendor- or OEM-supported service activities.
• Verify equipment operation and system stability before returning equipment to service, following approved site change-management and operating procedures.
• Provide technical guidance, field coaching, and troubleshooting support to HVAC Technicians Levels 1–3.
• Assist site leadership with repair planning, scope development, parts identification, critical-spares recommendations, vendor coordination, and equipment risk assessment.
• Coordinate work with site operations, BAS/controls personnel, electrical teams, contractors, vendors, and manufacturers to minimize operational disruption.
• Maintain accurate service records, condition assessments, equipment histories, work-order notes, readings, parts usage, and root-cause documentation in the designated maintenance system.
• Communicate equipment status, operational risk, temporary measures, and recommended next steps clearly to site and Hunton Services leadership.
• Follow all site access, safety, environmental, refrigerant-management, lockout/tagout, change-management, and customer-specific procedures.
• Participate in shift coverage, after-hours response, overtime, weekends, and emergency support as required by continuous site operations.

Qualifications and Requirements

• 8+ years of progressive commercial or industrial HVAC service experience with extensive hands-on chiller responsibility.
• Demonstrated expertise servicing and troubleshooting centrifugal and rotary/screw chillers; experience with reciprocating chillers and multi-chiller plants is preferred.
• Data center, hospital, central utility plant, manufacturing, or other mission-critical facility experience is strongly preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of refrigeration cycles, compressors, heat exchangers, oil systems, pumps, cooling towers, hydronic systems, electrical components, variable frequency drives, and related ancillary equipment.
• Working knowledge of BAS and chiller controls, including the ability to interpret alarms, trends, points, sequences of operation, and system interactions for diagnostic purposes.
• Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, flow diagrams, control sequences, equipment specifications, and manufacturer service literature.
• Experience leading complex troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, equipment startup, commissioning support, major repair, or overhaul activities.
• EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required.
• OEM chiller certifications or factory training on Trane or other major commercial chiller platforms are strongly preferred.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize critical equipment conditions, make sound escalation decisions, and provide technical direction to other technicians.
• Professional communication, documentation, organization, and customer-service skills.
• Proficiency with mobile devices, digital service tools, and Microsoft Office applications; ability to learn required work-order and site systems.
• Ability to comply with Hunton safety standards and all applicable OSHA, EPA, customer, and site requirements.
• Valid driver's license with a safe driving record and ability to satisfy applicable background and pre-employment screening requirements.
