Job summary

Zekelman Industries in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Maintenance Technician to ensure safe repair and rebuild of tube mill production equipment. The role emphasizes electrical troubleshooting, mechanical fixes and adherence to safety procedures in a heavy manufacturing setting.

The technician will read blueprints, monitor parts inventory, operate shop equipment, and support continuous improvement efforts while maintaining high standards of quality and uptime.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years in a heavy manufacturing environment.
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
• Experience with electrical systems and PLCs; ability to read blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Perform electrical maintenance following safety procedures including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
• Ensure guards and safety equipment are in place before returning equipment to operators.
• Monitor inventory levels and place orders for parts as needed.
• Use CMMS to track, inspect, and report equipment status.
• Read blueprints and schematics to diagnose and repair equipment and machinery.
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and quality issues and escalate when necessary.
• Perform breakdown repairs, preventive maintenance, and changeovers on production equipment.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with safety regulations.
• Operate powered industrial trucks and cranes as required.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to problem-solving efforts.
• Comply with OSHA safety standards and company policies.
