UPS is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic or Industrial Electrician to support our package sorting system at our Dallas facilities. The role covers mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic maintenance for conveyors and related equipment.

The position is full-time, permanent, with third-shift work patterns likely. Candidates should be able to read schematics, perform repairs, and maintain safety standards in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, or legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and strong mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to demonstrate mechanical aptitude with strong problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in the safe use of common shop tools and equipment.
• Experience maintaining conveyor belts is a plus.
• Knowledge of electrical/building schematics is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair and/or replace mechanical components such as motors, chains, belts, rollers, pulleys, and transfer plates.
• Troubleshoot, adjust and replace AC/DC electrical equipment including PLCs, control stations, fuses, relays and motor starters.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair pneumatic equipment such as air compressors and hoses.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair hydraulic equipment such as cylinders and pumps.
• Weld for safety rails, supports and conveyor structures.
• Perform preventive maintenance on conveyors, bulk carts and related plant equipment.

Job Description

Maintenance Mechanic or Industrial Electrician position supports the package sorting system, including belt conveyors. In our industry this position is also known as Plant Mechanic or Industrial Mechanic. This position is responsible for a broad range of maintenance activities that are performed to keep UPS package handling facilities operating efficiently and effectively. The work can be fast-paced and requires routine interaction with other operations employees.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and/or replacing mechanical components such as motors, reducers, drive chains, sprockets, sheaves, pulleys, rollers, conveyor belts, bearings, and transfer plates
• Troubleshooting, adjusting and replacing AC and DC electrical equipment such as batteries, control stations, fuses, motor starters, relays, switches, timers and PLC
• Inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and/or replacing pneumatic equipment such as flow splitters, diverters, air compressors, lubricators, hoses, and coils
• Inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and/or replacing hydraulic equipment such as hoses, fittings, cylinders, and pumps
• Welding equipment such as handrails, conveyor supports, package handling equipment, carts, and grating
• Performing preventive maintenance inspections of plant equipment such as conveyors, bulk carts, and power industrial equipment

Requirements

• Successful completion of required testing
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to demonstrate mechanical aptitude with strong problem-solving skills
• Proficient in the safe use of common shop tools and equipment
• Experience in performing maintenance on conveyor belts is an asset
• Knowledge of electrical and building schematics is an asset

Compensation And Benefits

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The starting pay for this position is $40.11 per hour. For union-represented postings, wage rates and ranges and benefit offerings are governed by applicable collective bargaining agreement provisions.
