Job summary

UPS in Richmond, VA is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic/Industrial Electrician to support the package sorting system, including conveyors. This full-time, night-shift role involves maintenance on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, PLCs, and related equipment.

Training, weekly pay, vacation accrual, and advancement opportunities are offered. The position is based at 9601 Coach Road, Richmond, VA 23237, with Sunday through Thursday, 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM shifts.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Ability to receive and give instruction over radio in industrial environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience of performing maintenance on conveyor belts is an asset.
  • Knowledge of electrical and building schematics is an asset.
  • Knowledge of keyboard and basic computer skills is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair and/or replace mechanical components on conveyors and related equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair AC/DC electrical equipment (batteries, control stations, fuses, motor starters, relays, switches, timers, PLC).
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair and/or replace pneumatic equipment (puck sorters, air compressors, hoses).
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair and/or replace hydraulic equipment (hoses, fittings, cylinders, pumps).
  • Weld equipment such as handrails, conveyor supports and shipping equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections of plant equipment.

Job Description

The Maintenance Mechanic or Industrial Electrician position supports the package sorting system, including belt conveyors. In our industry this position is also known as Plant Mechanic or Industrial Mechanic. This position is responsible for a broad range of maintenance and electrical activities that are performed to keep UPS package handling facilities operating efficiently and effectively. The work can be fast-paced and requires routine interaction with other operations employees.

Compensation
  • $39.16/hour during the first year
  • $46.07/hour after one year of continuous service
Key Responsibilities
  • Inspecting troubleshooting repairing and/or replacing mechanical components such as motors, reducers, drive chains, sprockets, sheaves, pulleys, rollers, conveyor belts, bearings, and transfer plates
  • Troubleshooting adjusting and replacing AC and DC electrical equipment such as batteries, control stations, fuses, motor starters, relays, switches, timers and PLC
  • Inspecting troubleshooting repairing and/or replacing pneumatic equipment such as puck sorters, flow splitters, diverters, air compressors, lubricators, hoses, and coils
  • Inspecting troubleshooting repairing and/or replacing hydraulic equipment such as hoses, fittings, cylinders, and pumps
  • Welding equipment such as handrails, conveyor supports, package handling equipment, carts, and grating
  • Performing preventive maintenance inspections of plant equipment such as conveyors, bulk carts, and power industrial equipment
Requirements

Pay Range

For this union-represented posting, wage rates and ranges and benefit offerings are governed by applicable collective bargaining agreement provisions. The starting pay rate for this position starts at $39.16/hr. The company offers the following benefits for this position, subject to applicable eligibility requirements.
