Platinum Group Metal Services (PGMS) is a leading refiner and recycler of precious group metals. The growing demand for low carbon and responsibly sourced products is creating growth opportunities in critical metals recycling and secondary refining, and as the world's largest precious metals recycler, PGMS is a key player in the circular economy.
The role will be responsible for the facilitation and maintenance of the Industrial / Occupational Hygiene programme at West Deptford PGMS site. The role holder will conduct the established Industrial /Occupational Hygiene programme including risk assessment, exposure monitoring and exposure control plans. A demonstrable ability to identify, evaluate and implement robust control measures for chemical, physical and biologically active agents is a prerequisite for success in this role. In addition to the core Industrial Hygiene content the successful candidate will be involved in associated work as part of the Group EHS Health Team.
Your Responsibilities:
- Having awareness and understanding on legislative and industry standard requirements as they relate to Industrial / Occupational Hygiene
- Create and implement action plans to ensure the site remains compliant with relevant legislation and standards.
- Working with the PGMS site teams to design out health risks.
- Responsible for creation and management all aspects of the Industrial / Occupational Hygiene monitoring and assessment programmes, making recommendations and implementing improvement / exposure reduction action plans. This includes undertaking workplace monitoring including, but not limited to:
- Workplace exposure/air monitoring
- Noise and vibration assessment
- Ergonomic assessment
- Thermal environment assessment
- Local exhaust ventilation assessments
- Other topic comprehensive exposure assessments
- Analysis and presentation of monitoring data and trends to site management
- Management of the COSHH / Qualitative Chemical exposure assessment system
- Management and maintenance of RPE Program
- Assistance in the implementation of exposure control competency amongst production and engineering teams through containment focus program.
- Contributing actively to projects to ensure IH and wider EHS concerns are appropriately reflected
- Assisting in site incident and ill health investigations
- Supporting the documenting and accurate reporting Occupational illness cases or exposure episodes by the site and carrying out root cause analysis to identify opportunities for improvement
- Delivery of training such as but not limited to, COSHH Assessment, Chemical Awareness, PPE, Heat Stress to site teams
- Advising on other IH topics such as ionising and non-ionising radiation, asbestos and legionella
- Support and participate in Group EHS Health Team activities and processes when required basis such as EHS Standard work, training, support, assurance.
Requirements for the role:- A holder of or working towards the Certificate of operational competence in occupational hygiene (BOHS) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (ABIH) or equivalent qualifications
- Degree in Biomedical science, Chemistry or environmental health based subjects
- An ability to provide innovative solutions to problems
- High level of numeracy, working with systems, data and statistical analysis
- Experience of working in an industrial manufacturing environment experience preferably within chemical, pharmaceutical or petrochemical industry
