Job summary

Carpenter Technology Corporation in Reading, PA, is seeking a Crane Repair Person to maintain and repair crane systems across our mill. You will inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and install crane components, ensuring reliability and safety in a high‑demand industrial setting.

You will work with mechanics and electricians, read blueprints, perform preventive maintenance, and document activities in CMMS. Strong welding, fabrication, and electrical knowledge are essential to keep heavy equipment

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; trade school cert preferred.
• 3–5 years in heavy industrial mechanical/electrical/crane craft.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics.
• Welding and metal fabrication experience required.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and schematics.
• Familiarity with lockout/tagout and OSHA safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot and repair crane components (motors, gearboxes, brakes, hydraulics, pneumatics, drives, controls).
• Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on cranes.
• Weld, machine, electronic work, pipefitting, and rigging as needed.
• Install new crane parts and auxiliary equipment.
• Reassemble and test machines to ensure proper operation.
• Repair, rebuild and assemble mechanical and electrical spare parts.
• Move and install large parts using overhead cranes and hoists.
• Read blueprints and technical manuals; fabricate parts as needed.
• Collaborate with mechanics, electricians, engineers; troubleshoot and optimize equipment.
• Document work in CMMS and maintain logs and reports.
