Job summary

Carpenter Technology Corporation in Reading, PA is seeking a Crane Repair Person to maintain and repair crane systems in a heavy industrial setting. You will troubleshoot, inspect, and service motors, gearboxes, brakes, hydraulics, pneumatics, and controls, ensuring safe, reliable operation.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED with 3–5 years of mechanical/electrical craft experience, welding and fabrication skills, ability to read blueprints, and adherence to OSHA safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; trade school certification preferred.
• 3–5 years’ experience as qualified craft personnel (Mechanical, Electrical, or Crane Discipline) in a heavy industrial environment.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, VFDs, and industrial machinery.
• Welding and metal fabrication experience required.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and schematics; familiarity with lockout/tagout and OSHA standards.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot and repair all crane components including motors, gearboxes, brakes, hydraulics, pneumatics, drives, controls, and festooning.
• Perform preventative and predictive maintenance to ensure continuous crane operation.
• Weld, machine, electronic work, pipefitting, and rigging as needed for repairs.
• Install new parts on cranes and auxiliary equipment; reassemble and test for proper operation.
• Read and interpret blueprints and technical manuals; fabricate parts using welding and cutting tools.
• Collaborate with maintenance staff to troubleshoot, design, repair, and optimize equipment.
• Document work in CMMS logs/reports and ensure safety compliance with regulations.
