Job summary

BGCSF (Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco) seeks an Individualized Afterschool Program Assistant to support youth in afterschool and club settings. You will work closely with youth, families, and school staff to provide individualized assistance within a safe, positive environment.

The role focuses on youth development, IEP-based support, and strong communication. The Beacon Malcolm X Academy site offers a structured program during the school year with a Monday–Friday 25-hour schedule.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or 48 college units plus high school diploma
• Ability to work with youth who have IEP-designated needs
• Clear written and verbal communication with staff and families
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters
• Experience with TK-5th grade youth in development settings
• Strong behavior management and high expectations
• Current Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification
• SFUSD Paraeducator restraint policies training or arranged within 90 days

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and preparing materials for youth with special needs
• Assist with personal care needs as required
• Work with youth according to their IEP
• Lead in small and large groups
• Explain activities and help youth complete activities
• Maintain records for grants and internal documentation
• Operate and maintain program equipment and supplies
• Develop alternative communication supports
• Manage program space to maintain a positive environment
• Lead behavior management interventions as needed
• Provide first aid as trained and report incidents
• Report disciplinary problems and injuries to the Site Director
