Job summary

Boys and Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley (BGCSV) is seeking a part-time Youth Program Assistant to support after-school activities for diverse youth in San Jose. You will supervise groups, mentor members, and help deliver development-rich programs in a safe, inclusive environment.

The role emphasizes teamwork, reliable participation, and a commitment to equity and accessibility. Relevant experience in education or recreational settings is preferred; DOJ/FBI background clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Experience with students in educational or recreational settings preferred.
• Background in after-school programs, sports coaching, theater, or special education highly desirable.
• Knowledge of childhood development principles and classroom management.
• Ability to educate and inspire youth through various activities with a positive learning environment.
• First Aid certification preferred; willingness to obtain if not held.
• DOJ and FBI background clearance required; 18 years of age or older; bilingual skills a plus.

Responsibilities

• Supervision and safety: maintain a safe, nurturing environment for youth.
• Facilitate activities promoting social, emotional, and physical development for groups of ~20.
• Provide mentorship and guidance helping youth navigate challenges.
• Implement educational programs aligned with childhood development best practices.
• Collaborate with parents, teachers, and community organizations to enhance development.
• Maintain records of progress and participate in program planning and safety drills.
