Job summary

CSPNJ is seeking a full-time Support Worker to provide direct support, skill development, and community resource linkages to individuals with mental health and/or substance use challenges. The role is field-heavy (70-80%), focusing on service plans, needs assessments, and timely progress notes in line with regulatory standards.

The position requires a bachelor’s in a mental health field (or 3+ years lived experience with a related diploma), strong communication, and a valid NJ driver's license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a mental health related discipline preferred; alternatively, a high school diploma with 3+ years of related work/lived experience.
• Ability to prepare clear, concise, timely, and accurate billable progress notes in accordance with clinical, regulatory requirements.
• Ability to carry out essential domestic responsibilities in support of daily living.
• Strong communication skills that promote collaboration and positive relationships.
• Prominent level of patience and emotional resilience.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure, sound judgment, and adapt effectively to changing situations.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and provide consistent support to multiple residents.
• Proficient in MS Office products, as well as general computer literacy.
• Ability to engage and support individuals with mental health diagnoses through empathy, professionalism, and trauma-informed approaches.
• Bilingual skills a plus!
• MUST have a valid NJ Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
• Lived Experience: CSPNJ values the perspectives of individuals who have used their own experiences with mental health and/or substance use challenges to inspire, support, and empower others.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support, skill development, and community resource linkages to individuals with psychiatric and/or substance use disabilities.
• Work primarily in the field (70-80%) meeting residents on service plans and assessing needs.
• Manage a caseload of 25–30 persons served with timely progress notes and regulatory-compliant documentation.
• Coordinate with regional staff to ensure consistency of care and service plan implementation.
