Job summary

Summerfield Schools in Michigan is seeking an Independence Facilitator to support student learning under the supervision of the classroom teacher at Summerfield Jr/Sr High School. This on-site role requires a high school diploma or GED, with additional education or WorkKeys credentials preferred.

You will help maintain student records, assist with instructional activities, supervise during transitions, and promote a safe, respectful classroom environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree, 60 credit hours, or WorkKeys with Michigan passing score.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
• Ability to interact with staff and parents.
• Experience with special needs students preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support student learning under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
• Assist the classroom teacher in maintaining individual student records for students needing supplemental help.
• Assist the classroom teacher in keeping the classroom neat, clean, and orderly.
• Guide students in working with other students.
• Promote responsible citizenship by example.
• Provide a classroom atmosphere based on firm, fair, and consistent practices and respect for individuals.
• Provide instructional support and training activities to students under the teacher’s direction.
• Take precautions to ensure staff/student safety.
• Participate in special instructional activities to meet program goals (e.g., loading/unloading buses, PE, playground supervision).
• Capable of handling confidentiality.
