Job summary

Silver Lake Elementary School in Traverse City, Michigan, seeks a Floating Special Education Assistant for up to 5.0 hours per day. Qualifications

• Minimum education requirement is a high school diploma.
• Previous college credit, WorkKeys certification or college degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists special education student(s) with academics in regular education classroom.
• Assists students in categorical classrooms.
• Assists special education students in physical education, music, art, at lunch and recess as needed.
• Takes part in planning meetings and IEPC's as requested.
• Assists with small group non-direct instruction.
• Assists with large group non-direct instruction.
• Assists with physical challenges (wheel-chairs, scribe, daily life skills, communication devices).
• Works in areas of self-help (toileting, diapering, dressing, feeding, dispensing medications).
• Monitors behavior of students on behavior plans and others as needed under the direction of the special education teacher.
• Attends training or in-services.
• Accompanies special education students on field trips.
