Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an Educational Aide to support students with disabilities in inclusive and special education settings. The role involves preparing instructional materials, lifting when required, and assisting with personal care while maintaining confidentiality.

Responsibilities include supervising students, assisting substitute teachers, and implementing behavior intervention strategies in accordance with IEPs.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Associate degree or two years of higher education preferred.
• If hired, must complete SBEC certification process to obtain an Educational Aide Certification.
• Ability to work with children with disabilities.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Knowledge of general office equipment.
• Ability to work in a stressful environment and with frequent interruptions.
• Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
• Must be able to lift 25 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Assist the special education teacher with the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities.
• Prepare instructional materials.
• Maintain administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Provide assistance to substitute teachers.
• Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including lifting when required.
• Help manage student behavior.
• Support instructional needs according to students’ IEPs.
• Assist with personal care as appropriate.
• Learn and adapt to each student’s special needs.
• Work with individual students or small groups.
• Supervise students throughout the school day inside and outside the classroom.
• Keep the teacher informed about individual students’ special needs or problems.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Participate in staff development training programs and special events as assigned.
• Implement, support, and document behavioral intervention strategies and/or provide school health, related, and personal care services as needed.
