Job summary

Brooklyn Center Community Schools in Brooklyn Center, MN, seeks a Special Education Assistant for Brooklyn Center Elementary for the 2026-2027 year. The SEA will assist with instructional and non-instructional activities, support students and teachers, and help implement IEP goals.

Hours are 7:15am–2:15pm, 183 duty days, pay range $21.62–$26.44 per hour, with $0.40 extra per hour for PCA certification. Eligible candidates may have an Associate degree or 60 credits, and PCA certification.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree or 60 credits; experience as educational/teacher's assistant or paraprofessional, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Passing score on a paraprofessional exam meets minimum requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assists students with instructional and non-instructional activities and maintains engagement.
• Establishes positive relationships and models appropriate social skills.
• Adapts activities and materials to support classroom objectives.
• Helps staff with student behavior using proactive strategies.
• Assumes safety responsibilities for students in all environments.
• Reviews student IEPs and collects data as directed by licensed staff.
• Completes billing requirements and maintains service logs.
• Oversees and supervises students during the day, including field trips and meals; chaperones to and from class.
• Assists with preparing lesson materials and distributing supplies.
• Observes and records student progress.
