Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Alabama teaching certificate in special education.
• Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
• Proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
• Effective interpersonal skills with collaboration across diverse groups.
• Ability to develop and implement curriculum for assigned students.
• Ability to use technology to communicate, plan and provide instruction, manage data, and produce reports.
• Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina for job responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
• Demonstrates knowledge of child development and disability characteristics.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the prescribed curriculum.
• Participates in developing students’ IEPs as a member of the IEP team.
• Implements students’ IEPs.
• Schedules IEP meetings.
• Employs varied instructional strategies tailored to student needs.
• Monitors participation in regular education programs and assists with modifications.
• Uses technology to plan and facilitate instruction.
• Models appropriate and innovative use of technology for students.
• Integrates instructional technology and assistive tech in the classroom.
• Creates long-range instructional plans based on priorities and IEPs.
• Defines goals for long-range instructional and daily lesson plans.
• Identifies learning outcomes that are meaningful and measurable.
• Selects materials that support learning objectives and student needs.
• Maintains a clean, organized learning environment.
• Applies behavior management techniques as appropriate.
• Organizes routines for effective instructional time and admin tasks.
• Interprets data for instructional planning and program evaluation.
• Uses ongoing assessment to monitor progress and adjust curriculum.
• Communicates high learning expectations for all students.
• Supports extracurricular activities as assigned.
• Participates in school improvement initiatives and activities.
• Maintains confidentiality and demonstrates professional ethics.
