Job summary

Jefferson County Board of Education seeks an Exceptional Education Instructional Paraprofessional to support students with disabilities under the supervision of a special education services teacher and a principal.

Responsibilities include reinforcing lessons, assisting with records, mobility, toileting, behavior management, field trips, and basic health duties as directed by the school nurse.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 48 semester hours (or ACT WorkKeys passing score).
• Ability to meet suitability criteria under Alabama Child Protection Act.
• Ability to work in demanding environment.
• Proficient oral and written communication with students, parents and others.
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
• Ability to follow instructions and manage data with technology.

Responsibilities

• Reinforces lesson concepts for individual or small groups.
• Assist teacher with records related to attendance, grades, behavior.
• Transfer students on/off buses and assist with mobility.
• Assist with toileting and hygiene needs; lift up to 50 pounds.
• Support on field trips; assist bus drivers with discipline and student needs.
• Provide basic health or first aid as directed by nurse.
• Maintain confidentiality and proper reporting using technology.
