Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Alabama teaching certificate in special education.
  • Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under state laws.
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop and implement curriculum for assigned students.
  • Ability to use technology to communicate, plan, instruct, manage data, and prepare reports.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of child development and characteristics of disabilities.
  • Participates in development of students’ IEPs as a member of the IEP team.
  • Implements students’ IEPs and schedules IEP meetings.
  • Employs varied instructional strategies matched to student needs.
  • Monitors participation in regular education with appropriate supports.
  • Utilizes technology to plan, instruct, and facilitate learning.
