Job summary

Xcel Energy in Minnesota invites interns to join the Major Projects Group for hands-on construction project management and field engineering experience. You will work on active construction projects, gaining skills in problem solving, engineering application, and professional communication.

The program focuses on real-time drawing updates, field changes, and relationship management, with in-school and summer scheduling to fit your studies.

Qualifications

• Minimum requirements include being a current student, junior or higher, enrolled in an ABET-accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
• Must have reliable transportation to commute to in-person project sites.
• Able to work full-time in summer (up to 40 hours/week) or part-time during school year (up to 20 hours/week) per hybrid policy.

Responsibilities

• Participate in construction oversight, planning, field inspections, and safety observations.
• Collaborate with Xcel staff to ensure compliance with engineering codes and standards.
• Learn about drawing updates and field engineering changes on active projects.
• Assist with internal documentation, tracking of project metrics, and reporting.
• Assist with vendor outreach and coordination.
