Job summary

Jobtailor in Minnesota is seeking a summer intern to join the Major Projects Group on active construction projects. You will participate in oversight, field inspections, and safety observations, collaborating with Xcel staff to ensure compliance with applicable engineering codes and standards.

You will learn drawing updates and field engineering changes, while developing skills in managing professional project relationships.

Qualifications

• Current student, junior or higher.
• Enrolled in an ABET-accredited college or university.
• Pursuing a degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
• Reliable transportation.
• Able to commute 100% in-person to project site.
• Able to work full-time during the summer, up to 40 hours a week.
• Able to work part time during the school year, up to 20 hours a week.
• Candidate must already live within a commutable distance or be able to relocate for several months.
• 3.0 GPA or higher preferred.
• Completed 2 years of undergraduate coursework preferred.
• Experience or proficiency with Microsoft Office applications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support the Major Projects Group on active construction projects
• Participate in construction oversight and planning, field inspections, and safety observations
• Collaborate with Xcel staff to ensure projects comply with applicable engineering codes and standards
• Learn about drawing updates and field engineering changes during active projects
• Develop knowledge of managing professional project relationships
• Assist with internal documentation, project metric tracking, and reporting
• Assist with vendor outreach and coordination
• Apply engineering principles to real-time problem solving and field engineering
• Gain hands-on experience building projects from completed engineered drawings
