Job summary

State of Utah DMV Motor Carrier Technician position in Salt Lake City is a front-line role handling in-person and telephone inquiries, issuing plates, registrations and related tasks. Position rotates weekly across the Motor Carrier section and requires passing a FBI background check and maintaining tax compliance.

The role is on-site with a competitive hourly wage, and state benefits apply. Remote work is not available and the deadline is 10/27/2026.

Qualifications

• Experience understanding processes and applying them in day-to-day functions.
• Experience communicating with a wide variety of people.
• Experience following laws and rules and handling customers tactfully.
• Experience using computer programs in daily tasks.
• Experience with attention to detail and accurately handling money.

Responsibilities

• Issue license plates, permits, registrations, certificates, etc.
• Receive, research and respond to inquiries; explain policy and procedures; facilitate a resolution.
• Process transactions at a Point of Sale system, provide correct change, close cash drawer.
• Assist the public to complete forms, applications and other paperwork.
• Examine documents to verify applicability, legibility, completeness and accuracy.
• Communicate information clearly in writing and verbally; read and understand written information.
• Perform comprehensive physical inspection of motor vehicles to verify VIN.
