Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active California Bar membership.
• At least seven years of employment litigation experience.
• Ability to manage cases independently, including discovery, motion practice, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trial preparation.
• First- or second-chair trial experience; meaningful arbitration or hearing experience.
• Direct client-contact experience and the ability to advise stakeholders and manage matters with limited oversight.
• Traditional labor experience is strongly preferred but not required for an otherwise qualified employment litigator.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage employment litigation, administrative claims, regulatory inquiries and audits, internal investigations, wage claims, and related disputes from inception through resolution.
• Develop and execute litigation strategies aligned with the company's business priorities and risk-management objectives.
• Lead law-and-motion and discovery work, including drafting motions, briefs, pleadings, and correspondence; managing document collection and ESI; and propounding and responding to discovery.
• Prepare for, take, and defend depositions; lead mediations and arbitrations.
• Evaluate claims, recommend resolution strategies, and negotiate settlements when appropriate.
• Provide practical, proactive advice to internal stakeholders on litigation risk, dispute resolution, and compliance.
• Handle significant litigation work in-house and coordinate with outside counsel when matters require external support.
• Support traditional labor matters, including grievance review and strategy, and apply transferable employment litigation skills to this area.
• Maintain direct, trusted relationships with internal clients and communicate case status, strategy, and risk clearly to Legal and business leadership.
• Monitor legal developments affecting the organization and recommend improvements to policies, training, documentation, and processes.
• Provide guidance to less-experienced attorneys or legal staff and contribute to other Legal Department initiatives as needed.
