Job summary

Rivaz, Inc. is seeking an in-house Legal Counsel, Intellectual Property to support Rivaz and its subsidiaries. The role will manage IP processes, collaborate with engineering and business teams, and coordinate with outside patent and trademark counsel.

The ideal candidate should have experience supporting patent prosecution and managing IP portfolios in batteries, electrochemistry or advanced materials, and will handle IP transactions, international filings, and IP enforcement activities.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• Active bar status in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and eligible to practice as in-house counsel in California.
• 3–5 years of IP experience at a law firm or in-house.
• Experience supporting patent prosecution and working with inventors and outside counsel.
• Experience managing multiple IP matters and external service providers.
• Professional working proficiency in Mandarin Chinese is required.

Responsibilities

• Patent portfolio development and management with invention disclosures.
• Coordinate patent drafting and prosecution between inventors and outside counsel.
• Review patent applications and office actions for technical accuracy and commercial alignment.
• Perform patentability, prior art, and competitive landscape searches.
• Manage domestic and international patent portfolios, including filings and deadlines.
• Coordinate trademark applications, renewals, and portfolio maintenance.
• Develop IP processes, docketing records, and management reports.
• Handle third-party infringement analyses and cease‑and‑desist responses.
