Job summary

MWH Constructors is seeking an experienced Associate General Counsel to lead construction disputes, claims, and litigation across the United States. Reporting to the General Counsel, you will develop practical strategies, manage outside counsel, and align legal risk with business objectives on major water and heavy civil projects.

Based at the corporate headquarters in Broomfield, Colorado, this full‑time onsite role offers visibility to executive leadership and opportunities to shape risk

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar and ability to obtain Colorado authorization.
• Minimum six years of relevant legal experience, with substantial hands-on construction claims and litigation.
• Experience representing clients in construction/engineering/heavy civil industries, in private practice or in-house.
• Demonstrated ability to develop litigation/claims strategy and drive resolution.
• Strong research, writing, negotiation, and oral communication skills.
• Ability to provide practical, business-focused legal advice to executives and project teams.
• Self-directed, able to manage multiple complex matters with deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Manage construction claims, disputes, and litigation for water, wastewater, and heavy civil projects.
• Develop case strategy, assess risk, and drive resolutions with business impact.
• Oversee discovery, document review, witness prep, and legal research.
• Draft and review pleadings, motions, briefs, settlements, and related documents.
• Select and oversee outside counsel, manage strategy and budgets.
• Advise leadership on litigation exposure and claims strategy.
• Provide practical counsel on contracts, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with project teams and internal stakeholders to identify risks.
