Job summary

MWH Constructors is seeking an experienced Associate General Counsel to lead construction disputes, claims, and litigation across the United States. Reporting to the General Counsel, you will develop practical legal strategies, mitigate risk, and safeguard the company’s interests in major water and heavy civil projects.

This role is based at MWH’s corporate headquarters in Broomfield, Colorado, and requires full-time onsite work.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar and ability to obtain authorization to practice in Colorado.
• Minimum six years of relevant legal experience, with substantial hands-on experience managing construction claims, disputes, and litigation.
• Experience representing clients in the construction, engineering, heavy civil, infrastructure, or related industries, either in private practice or an in-house environment.
• Demonstrated ability to develop litigation and claims strategy, evaluate legal and commercial risk, manage discovery, draft substantive legal documents, and drive matters toward resolution.
• Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, analytical, and oral communication skills.
• Ability to provide practical, business-focused legal advice to executive leadership, project teams, and other internal stakeholders.
• Sound judgment and timely decision-making based on facts, law, business objectives, and risk.
• Self-directed and results-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple complex matters with limited oversight.
• Collaborative and approachable working style; build trusted relationships across teams.
• Willingness and ability to work full-time onsite at MWH’s corporate headquarters in Broomfield, Colorado.

Responsibilities

• Manage construction claims, disputes, and litigation arising from MWH’s projects.
• Develop case strategy, evaluate risk, and drive toward practical business-focused resolutions.
• Direct day-to-day litigation activities: discovery, document review, witness prep, and legal research.
• Draft and review pleadings, motions, briefs, settlement agreements, and other litigation documents.
• Select, engage, and oversee outside counsel, including budgets and spend.
• Advise project teams and leadership on claims, risk, and dispute strategies.
• Provide practical counsel on construction contracts, project execution, and regulatory compliance.
• Draft, review, analyze, and negotiate construction and commercial agreements.
