Job summary

Jefferson County Schools is seeking a Home Study Instructor to provide in-home special education instruction aligned with IEP goals, under supervision of the Coordinator of Student Support and Special Programs.

The role requires collaboration with classroom teachers, service providers, and families, ensuring continuity of learning in a flexible home setting. Candidates should have strong organizational and communication skills and experience with technology tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in special education preferred, but not required.
• Experience supporting children with special needs.
• Willingness to meet in the homes of students who are unable to attend school due to medical or other qualifying circumstances.
• Excellent interpersonal skills for working effectively with a variety of stakeholders including students, families, and school personnel.
• Strong organizational and communication skills employing tact, patience, and the ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
• Demonstrated expertise related to technology devices and applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and file sharing programs.

Responsibilities

• Delivering in-home special education instruction, aligned with IEP goals, as guided by the special education classroom teachers.
• Understanding, collecting, and securing instructional plans;
• Collaborating closely with classroom teachers, service providers, and families;
• Returning student work to classroom teachers for assessment and feedback;
• Addressing and implementing Individual Education Plans and 504 plans in accordance with Policy 2419; and
• Ensuring continuity of learning in a supportive and flexible environment.
